Pap Result
A positive pap result could be from the presence of the vaginal wart virus HPV that causes cervical dysplasia and infections that include lichen sclerosis.
But this procedure is not a diagnostic tool and if atypical cells are found, further examination is required, such as coloscopy, biopsy and HPV test. Some disorders may be asymptomatic on the earliest and the most treatable stages, so regular examination may prevent serious complications.

This test is the only reliable method for finding atypical cells on the surface of the cervix. It is simple and painless and requires little time. During the procedure some cells are scrapped from the surface of the cervix and sent to the lab.
