Cyrosurgery
Cyrosurgery is performed after a positive pap smear, which indicates presence of human papillomavirus.
It is a simple office procedure, during which the doctor inserts an instrument called a cryoprobe into the vagina and places it onto the abnormal area. This procedure is often used to treat cervical dysplasia, cervical cancer and abnormal cervical bleeding by freezing the abnormal cells.

Several follow up Pap smears are necessary to evaluate the results of the procedure. The procedure is rather simple and has no side effects, though some discomfort and cramping may occur.
