Irregular Pap Smear
Irregular pap smear may require cryosurgery, or other treatment, otherwise it can lead to lichen sclerosis and other complications.
But, if left untreated, over time mild dysplasia may progress to more severe forms of dysplasia and possible cancer. However, abnormal results do not mean that infection is recent, nor does it mean that cancer is imminent. HPV infected women are more likely to have abnormal cytology results.

Nowadays, women whose cervical cells exhibit some minute changes commonly get HPV testing to ascertain if further testing is needed. However, current research suggests HPV testing in women over 30 can be helpful. HPV DNA routine testing for women without abnormal cytology findings is not approved. Irregular pap smear may require cryosurgery, or other treatment, otherwise it can lead to lichen sclerosis and other complications.
