A loop procedure is another name for LEEP and is used in treating condyloma and other cervical, vulvar, or vaginal abnormalities. During this operation a fine wire with electrical energy flowing through it is used. The removed tisue is send to the laboratory for examination. The operation is usually done under local anesthesia and causes little discomfort, though some bleeding and itching afterwards is possible. "LLETZ" or "LEEP" is the operation for removing abnormal areas of the cervix for examination. It is used to treat and diagnose cervical dysplasia at the same time, often replacing biopsy.
