Cervical mucus changes could indicate a need for a colposcopy to determine if cervical cancer is present.
If this secretion becomes pink, brown, and foul-smelling, it's a sign of a problem. It is an ideal place for various infections associated with sexually transmitted diseases. A viscid slippery secretion that is usually rich in mucins and is produced by mucous membranes which it moistens and protects.

It can detect problems during early and treatable stages. Every woman should obtain a Pap smear annually.
