Cervical Cone
A cervical cone shaped sample may be taken for further diagnostics when an abnormal Pap smear results especially if characteristics cannot determine HPV.
The test is done when results of the biopsy of the cervix indicate precancerous cells or if it has not revealed the cause of an abnormal Pap smear. The procedure is performed underanesthesia fasting for 6-8 hours. After it there may be some scraping or discomfort for a week or so.

Pap Smear, HPV
Biopsy alone is usually sufficient to management CIN; electrocautery excision is also an option. Patients with high-grade lesions, especially carcinoma in situ, are usually managed by biopsy or hysterectomy. A cold knife, punch, or colposcopy-directed biopsy is done to obtain a sample of abnormal tissue from the cervix for examination. A cervical cone shaped sample may be taken for further diagnostics when an abnormal Pap smear results especially if characteristics cannot determine HPV.
