Cervical Conization
Cervical conization may be performed for further diagnostics following an ASCUS pap smear linked to HPV.
The procedure is performed with a scalpel (cold-knife), laser, or electrosurgical loop (LEEP or LLETZ). LEEP procedures are known for rapidity, preservation of the margins, and virtual bloodlessness. It doesn’t require general anesthesia. But the benefits of using laser may not justify its high cost.
Cervical conization may be performed for further diagnostics following an ASCUS pap smear linked to HPV.

The term is referred to excision of a cone-shaped wedge from the uteri that includes the transformation zone and all or a portion of the endocervical canal. The procedure is used for the definite diagnosis of squamous or glandular intraepithelial lesions, for excluding microinvasive carcinomas, and for treatment of CIN. Cervical conization may be performed for further diagnostics following an ASCUS pap smear linked to HPV.
