Cervical Screening
Cervical screening is performed prior to a LEEP procedure or cryotherapy treatment.
Testing for cancerous cells of the cervix is done through a Pap smear. It is important for every female to have an annual exam to detect any symptoms of future cancerous tissue or cells. Early detection is key, but surgery is not recommended, as early symptoms tend to disapper on their own, especially in young girls. After the age of 30 a combination Pap smear and HPV test should be performed.

Approximately 34% of women achieve immunity to abnormal cells of the cervix within 9-18 months. Once this immunity is achieved, then they cannot be reinfected, nor transmit this particular strain. However since they carry the virus, they are still susceptible to other strains. Cervical screening is performed prior to a LEEP procedure or cryotherapy treatment.
