Culposcopy
A culposcopy is performed to locate and diagnose the presence of the genital wart or venereal wart viruses.
If the abnormal area has not extended beyond the cervix, it can be treated during the same visit by biopsy or LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision). This examination is performed usually after repeated abnormal Pap smear tests to determine the nature and location of the problem.
A culposcopy is performed to locate and diagnose the presence of the genital wart or venereal wart viruses.

The exam is not painful and has no side effects; it can be done even if the patient is pregnant. In this test the doctor looks at the surface of the cervix through a colposcope. If there are abnormal cells on the cervix, the doctor will order a biopsy. A culposcopy is performed to locate and diagnose the presence of the genital wart or venereal wart viruses.
