Abnormal squamous cell readings from a pap smear test, or ASCUS, are often caused by the venereal wart viruses called HPV. HSIL, or moderate to severe cervical dysplasia, is the step right before cervical cancer. It is rather dangerous and the abnormal tissue should be removed immediately. There are several ways for treating this condition: cryotherapy, laser treatment or ablation, LEEP, cone biopsy and others. The diagnosis ASCUS means that some of the cells on your Pap smear didn’t look quite normal and require further examination, such as colposcopy and biopsy.
